Hospice: End of Life Care in Bellingham

Hospice, or end of life care, is a life-affirming philosophy of care and support system to help the dying and their loved ones find peace and maintain dignity in the final stages of life. The focus of hospice is on “palliative care”, not curing diseases. “Palliative care” is treatment that relieves discomfort and enhances quality of life.Lanphier Associates job 984, AVA003 at Avamere Hillsboro, Hillsb

At Avamere St. Francis of Bellingham, we strongly believe providing care at the end-of-life is a sacred and honored opportunity. Our holistic care team of health-care professionals involves a team-oriented approach to expert medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support tailored to the patient’s needs and wishes. Hospice services are also extended to the patient’s loved ones as well.

While most hospice end of life care is provided in a patient’s home, hospice care can also be provided in hospitals, skilled nursing and other long-term care facilities.

Every person is different, and the paths to the end of their lives will vary. Our Hospice program is focused on peacefulness during this last stage of a senior’s life. We provide non-invasive care to maximize comfort. Aggressive treatments are avoided because it can cause more suffering than justified. Our Avamere St. Francis of Bellingham hospice care team works to meet the needs of the elderly, and the people who care for them, during this final stage in life in the most loving and respectful way possible.

During this last chapter in a loved one’s life, we often find ourselves emotionally unstable, distant to our friends and family and sometimes unable to cope with the stress placed upon our shoulders.
